Have you ever felt the weight of loneliness, the suffocating silence of empty rooms? That’s the feeling I sought to capture in my latest music video, “A Million Silent Rooms,” a project born from a unique blend of human creativity and artificial intelligence. But also a new narrative that adds up to the social-ad film “Silent Heroes” (“Eroii din Umbră”), the driving force behind the raising awareness campaign launched by the White-Yellow Cross Foundation that sheds light over the emotional landscape of over 2 million people ageing alone in Romania, aiming to raise funds to offer them the so needed medical homecare and social support.
This song, with its haunting melody and poignant lyrics, was co-created with Gemini and Suno, AI generation applications. The overall messages and narratives where aligned with the help of my metadata-driven from numbness to narrative method. The visuals in the music video are a recreation with AI of my feelings, emotions and perceptions during my scout for the making of the social film, when I visited lonely elders in their homes and talked with the foundation’s staff.
The lyrics of the song speak of isolation, of fading memories, and the yearning for connection. But they also offer a glimmer of hope, a plea for kindness and a call to break the silence that surrounds so many.
The visuals, also used in my presentation “The Weight of 2 Million Walls” at the SPOTLIGHT: Staring at People seminar, depict the stark reality of aging alone. The papers resulted from this visual anthropologic research will be a chapter in the upcoming book series Interdisciplinary Studies on Spatial Dynamics and Marginalization in Central and Eastern Europe, Lexington Books. The seminar is about interdisciplinarity and ambiguity of playing with the visibility of humans in cities, and it was organized by University of Opole, Poland, University of St. Gallen – Center of Governance and Culture in Europe, Switzerland, National University of Theatre and Film, Romania.
This project is a testament to the power of human-machine communication, of both human and artificial emotional intelligence. By combining my creative vision with Gemini, Adobe Express and Suno’s AI capabilities, we’ve crafted a song that is both emotionally resonant and visually striking.
But beyond the artistic expression, this is a call to action. Loneliness among the elderly is a growing concern, and we can all play a part in combating it.
